BY NARAYAN LIU Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has some thoughts about Warner Bros. DCEU and how it compares to the undeniable success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently posted those views online in reaction to James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. In a series of posts online, Liefeld reacted to the view that The Suicide Squad's lackluster opening weekend meant big changes will be coming to DC. "Then get rid of everyone, top to bottom. Start over," the writer stated. In response to criticism that this was an unfair view due to the pandemic, Liefeld said, "Except those numbers will be out tomorrow and they won't be the difference maker." He then wrote, "Unfortunately, DC is just a damaged brand at this point. Marvel has pulled away in such spectacular fashion and DC has lost ground on all platforms." When asked why he believed that is, the comic book creator replied, "Years of tone deaf mismanagement." Liefeld added, "Make no doubt, The Suicide Squad is a great film. James Gunn added so much style and heart. The problem is deeper, beyond the pandemic and streaming. Looking forward to PEACEMAKER regardless." The Suicide Squad's opening weekend was compared to Mortal Kombat's release, which saw a gross of $23,302,503 over its opening. For comparison, James Gunn's DCEU film opened to $26.5 million and was produced on a budget of $185 million.

I imagine it will be more damaged in light of James Gunn being mention in a lawsuit against alleged pedophile James Euringer (a.k.a. Jimmy Urine). James Gunn reportedly hosted a "pedophile party" where attendees were to represent pedophiles and bring along mock (hopefully) victims. There's a difference between irreverent humor and validating a lifestyle that is so heinous that it's classified as a Federal crime.
