I left the social media site because it's dead.

Facebook locked me out of my account, so I went searching for alternatives.
I wasn't very active on Facebook because I don't like their policy of harvesting data on their users. I had encouraged someone to start a Facebook group a few years ago and saw that traffic was slow. One day I figured it might boost traffic if I joined and posted some scans of oddities I own. I was trying to help boost traffic to the group and give people something to discuss.
Even though the content was on topic and appropriate, Facebook started flagging the content as inappropriate. The items they flagged were just strange an arbitrary. Eventually, they made me do about 5 CAPTCHAs in a row to prove I'm not a robot. After passing those tests, it locked me out. I decided I did not like Facebook enough to try and regain access..
This was all occuring at the same time Trump was locked out of his Twitter account. I discovered that many of his supporters were moving to MeWe. I didn't join for that reason, I was just looking for an alternate place to read about and discuss comics.
It's mostly dead, but I found a couple of groups where people were discussing comics and joined them. Less than 10 people were posting in the groups I joined, but EVS was one of those people. At some point, he disagreed with my opinion something and asked why I don't leave. I thought about it for a second and decided that if I don't have a right to my own opinion there, it would be appropriate for me to leave and not disturb their conversations anymore.
I still have an account there. I even have a group that no one has joined.
The social media site that I do enjoy greatly is Mastodon. Mastodon is very similar to Twitter, except it's decentralized. Anyone can create a server "instance" that operates like Twitter, but those individual servers exchange information and make a much larger network of discussion. Being free of ads and being free of content filters limiting what you see, it's like moving back to 1999 when everything on the web was random. There are a lot of programmers which I like and sexual deviants which don't interest me, but I just block any users that are discussing things I don't care to look at.
There are some other decentralized social media clones that I like better than than the services they are copying. I like Pixelfed better than Instagram. I like Lemmy.ml better than Reddit. I like Friendica better than Facebook... but Friendica is completely dead.... hardly any users. Misskey is like Matodon, but it has more features that it is trying to develop like groups and image galleries. Misskey will interact with Mastodon users so you still get the benefit of a larger user base.
There are a lot of interesting things brewing with social media.
Donald Trump was hyping his Truth social network. Someone hacked his site and discovered he was using debranded Mastodon software. He got sued over that.

I don't disagree with all of EVS's gripes and some of his points are valid. I don't really care for videos that just read articles to me and inject opinion. I might listen to the presenter's opinions more if they weren't so slow at stating them. Even though EVS makes his points more quickly than others, I found myself increasing the speed of this video to 1.5x so I could get the message faster.
