Publicity is good.
Bad publicity is better than no publicity. I think they just want to stroke their own ego and test out their ability to manipulate people.
I have no intention of ever buying any of their product.
The only reason I know about them is because they are succeeding with bad publicity.
To anyone chasing their product, the word "sucker!" pops into my head.
It possible they'll release something good.
A broken clock is right twice a day.

They are attention whores. Roll over and rub their belly like a dog. To some degree. Buying Valiant made Dinesh a somebody. I think it went to his head. I think he's grasping at straws to get that reaction at the expense of making good comics. I have better ideas than what they are producing. |

I wish John Taddeo had bought Valiant. He is a lawyer in Florida who worked for Marvel at one time. We had a correspondence going on over AOL instant messenger back in the day when he did the comic, Zoom Suit. He wanted to buy Valiant and Crossgen and merge their universes into a new comic book company.

I wish John Taddeo had bought Valiant. He is a lawyer in Florida who worked for Marvel at one time. He wanted to buy Valiant and Crossgen and merge their universes into a new comic book company. I always felt like he was just a stalking horse bidder to drive the price up on the CrossGen and Valiant sales.
My memory is fuzzy on this, but I think Taddeo actually placed the highest for Valiant. I think there was some problem with his bid and they rolled it back to Dinesh's lesser bid. I don't think he really wanted it. I think he was getting a kickback on the final sale which would have been easy money. This is just speculation, but all he had to do was show up, shout out numbers like a shill bidder, then back out and take a commission on the sale price. My theory was that he just started his own comic book company to cover his tracks. I definitely would not have wanted to see him buy Valiant. His Zoom Suit comic was horrible. I might own one because I wanted to see what it was all about. If I don't own one, that means I read it at the comic shop and just put it back on the shelf.
Valiant needed someone more along the lines of Jim Shooter creatively. Jim even has some critical business knowledge. The only thing about Jim running a company is that DEFIANT wasted a lot of money that they needed to keep. Jim allowed them to spend money on marketing like they were Marvel, but they weren't. There needed to be someone telling him "No! We don't need video phones in 1994!" or "We don't need to film a low budget documentary about making our comics!" Between their liberal spending and the Marvel lawsuit, I think DEFIANT died an unnecessary demise.

Whatever happened to the Inside the Tower videotape they solicited and never released ? It was produced. It was on youtube. JayJay Jackson loaned me hers and I made a DVD from the VHS tape. The quality is poor because it was recorded from a VHS tape.
I gave out copies of the DVD to my message board members at the time for supporting my site. I don't have anymore to give out.

Yeah. That's a chopped up version of the DVD video I recorded.
The DVD I gave out looked like this. I can't remember how many were made, but it was something like 25.
