I disliked the Comics Code when I was younger, but I think it succeeded in making comics more kid friendly for the market.
I think that writing comics suitable for both adults and kids is a lost art. You can write serious themes and use a bigger vocabulary as Stan Lee did without making the product too mature or too childish. Kids will figure them out without making the comics stupid.
The "Comic Book Guide for the Artist·Writer·Letterer" actually publishes the comics code criteria inside. I own the B&W version which appears to be far more rare than the color version.
