Butcher Billy is Gunning For Hits from Image Comics
Posted by Rich Johnston May 18, 2019
Butcher Billy is a Brazilian artist and graphic designer known for his art pieces and illustration series based on the contemporary pop art movement. His work has a strong vintage comic book and street art influence while also making use of pop culture references in music, cinema, art, literature, games, history and politics. Often crossing reality and fiction, his projects promote creative concepts that reference fictional characters with real-life personalities such as musicians, artists, historical figures and politicians.
And now, after getting attention from newspapers, books, magazines and vehicles such as The Observer, Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post, NME, Wired, Elle, Maxim, Vanity Fair, Yahoo and MTV, exhibitions and galleries in London, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Lisbon and Dubai, and collaborations with companies such as ESPN, Michael Jordan, Foot Locker, E.Leclerc, British Gas, Billboard and Winsor & Newton, he’s turning to comics. For a cover at least.
With Image Comics’ Gunning For Hits #6, switching out its planned cover for one by Butcher Billy, below. Not only that, but for the series finaleof the pop culture/crime mashup comic by Jeff Rougvie and Moritat, the size of the comic book has expanded to include 29 pages of story and backmatter. Still four bucks.
Just a thought, Butcher Billy’s prints that sell for hundreds, thousands sometimes, have a high print run than this comic book is likely to have. Could this comic be considered a limited edition Butcher Billy print? I rather think it might do…
GUNNING FOR HITS #6 (MR)
(W) Jeff Rougvie (A) Moritat (CA) Butcher Billy
MINISERIES FINALE! Brian Slade returns to the stage for a make-or-break worldwide TV broadcast, but not everyone wants him to make it through the show. Billy has that “one bad day” everyone talks about. Plus: don’t miss this issue’s background feature and Spotify playlist! In Shops: Jun 12, 2019 Final Orders Due: May 20, 2019 SRP: $3.99
