Simpsons Creator Matt Groening Launches New Comic Company, Bapper Books
Last year, the world said goodbye to Bongo Comics, best known as the publisher of The Simpsons comic series. The company, co-founded by Simpsons creator Matt Groening, released its final issue in October of last year after 25 years in the business. However, not wanting to leave the world of comics behind, Groening announced the creation of a new publishing company, Bapper Books.
According to The Beat, Bapper Books will debut at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego at booth #2519, the same booth that Bongo Comics held during the con. It's also been confirmed that former editor for Bongo Comics Terry Delegeane will be involved with the new company.
While there's no word on if the publisher will release new comics based on The Simpsons, Bapper Books will be publishing comics based on Groening's Netflix series, Disenchantment, including Disenchantment: Untold Tales, a "first-look, exclusive, hardcover collecting the adventures of the hard-drinking princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, her personal demon Luci."
"Ultimately, Disenchantment is about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you," Groening said. "And before the onslaught of legal merch hits the shelves, we are proud to present Disenchantment: Untold Tales, which is a sideways comic–full of your favorite fantasy freaks doing stuff we couldn’t fit into the TV show."
Disenchantment was released on Netflix last August, with new episodes scheduled to be released on September 20.
