Skybound Entertainment, Audible Sign Multi-Year Exclusive Audio Drama Deal
Posted by Ray Flook August 13, 2019
Robert Kirkman‘s Skybound Entertainment (home of the Walking Dead universe) is following up its first-look television deal with Amazon Studios with a multi-year development deal with Amazon-owned Audible. Previously known for audiobooks, the service is looking to get a stronger foothold on the audio-only originals market – with the Skybound deal resulting in exclusive content for the audio platform.
“Audible is forging groundbreaking deals with leading creators and producers throughout the entertainment industry and Skybound Entertainment’s track record of creating wildly popular and beloved content is perfect for our voracious listeners. We are thrilled to be in business with these visionary creators and look forward to serving up new programming to our audience in the near future.”
– Rachel Ghiazza, SVP-Content Acquisition and Development, Audible
Audible’s deal with Skybound isn’t the company’s first move into audio dramas: earlier this year, Audible secured a multi-year deal with producer Broadway Video (Saturday Night Live) and Reese Witherspoon’s (The Morning Show) production company, Hello Sunshine.
“At Skybound we strive to connect creators to new and existing fanbases across multiple channels. Teaming up with Audible gives our creators a new platform to expand on their stories, and we’re excited to do so with the best in the audio content business.”
– David Alpert, CEO, Skybound Entertainment
Here’s what Kirkman has to say about Skybound‘s television deal with Amazon Studios back in August 2017:
“At Skybound Entertainment we strive to tell the best stories in the most unique and creative ways in an effort to always break new ground. A forward-thinking company like Amazon is the perfect home for us. Their new foray into genre fiction has us at peak optimism for what can be accomplished during this unprecedented partnership. Sharon Tal Yguado has been an instrumental force in the success of Walking Dead and Outcast from Day 1. Being able to not only continue that relationship, but also expand it into new territory with the vast resources of Amazon, means great things are ahead for myself, David Alpert, Skybound and fans of awesome entertainment.
Look out world, here we come!”
