No, we’re not talking about Transformers. The other one! That’s right! Go-Bots! The new series will be created by Tom Scioli, IDW revealed at their presentation at the Diamond Retailer Lunch. Though it might seem odd for IDW to have two competing transforming robot franchises, things have changed since you were a kid. Hasbro actually purchased the rights to the Go-Bots‘ fiction Universe back in 1981. So there’s no need to worry, Transformers fans. This probably isn’t taking the place of your favorite franchise after the big Unicron event is over. Probably. For more news from the Diamond Retailer Summit, stay tuned to Bleeding Cool. icv2.com/articles/news/view/40923/the-go-bots-returnTHE GO-BOTS RETURN The Transforming Toys Get New Comic Series Posted by Betsy Gomez on July 20, 2018 @ 6:50 pm CT IDW Publishing is bringing the Go-Bots to comics. Go-Bots is a five-issue miniseries written and drawn by visionary Transformers Vs. G.I. Joe and American Barbarian creator Tom Scioli. The first issue will be in stores in October. Go-Bots is the first comics story to feature classic toy and cartoon characters such as Leader-1, Scooter, Turbo, and Cy-Kill’s Renegades. In the series, the existence of the transforming robots has changed human existence, from chauffeuring people around to fighting human wars. But as they become more integrated into human lives -- and despite assurance they’re only there to help -- some begin to wonder if the Go-Bots might actually replace humans. The Go-Bot toy line from Tonka debuted in 1983, a year before Transformers. Hanna-Barbera produced a cartoon series to promote the line, which was immensely popular. Transformers eventually overtook the line, and the last new Go-Bots were released in 1987. Hasbro eventually acquired Tonka, and the Go-Bots line along with it. IDW holds a licensing agreement with Hasbro for the publication of comics based on the company’s properties.

www.cbr.com/tom-scioli-go-bots-comic-idw/Tom Scioli is Bringing the Go-Bots to IDW This Fall Go-Bots, the popular franchise based around giant, transforming robots, is set to return in an all-new comic book series, written and drawn by Tom Scioli for IDW Publishing. IDW made the announcement today, in commemoration of the classic toy line’s 35th anniversary. Scioli (Transformers vs. G.I. Joe) will write and draw the five-issue miniseries. Go-Bots will be the first story in over thirty years for the franchise, and will spotlight beloved characters Leader-1, Scooter, Turbo, and Cy-Kill’s Renegades. A synopsis of the series reads: “The existence of Go-Bots on Earth has changed humans’ way of life. They chauffeur us around. They protect us from harm. They do the jobs that are too boring or dangerous for us. They fight our wars for us. They are friends for the lonely. The only thing they don’t do is dream for us… but that could change any day now. For a generation, Leader-1 and the Guardians have said that they were here to help us… but as they become more integrated into our society, the question must be asked: Are they here to replace us?” “This is a dream project,” Scioli wrote in a statement. “I’m writing, drawing, coloring, and hand-lettering this book. It’s a labor of love. When these characters were conceived of in the ’80s, the idea of robots with human personalities was science fiction. Now, it’s history. The world of living machines is here – we’re living it. The time is right for Go-Bots!”
