Valiant Entertainment Make Redundancies
Last month, Bleeding Cool reported on IDW Publishing of San Diego making a number of employees redundant, permanently, some of which took to social media to elaborate on their position. We now understand that Valiant Entertainment of New York has had to make similar decisions.
After making enquiries, Matthew Klein, Valiant Entertainment's VP of Sales & Marketing told Bleeding Cool "Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have taken every possible measure to prevent having to let any of our wonderful staff go. However, we had to readjust our plans for 2020 and 2021, so this, unfortunately, became necessary to do at this time. We will do everything we can to support both individuals."
Valiant Entertainment was one of the first publishers to see creators asked to stop work on their comic books as the industry began to shut down. The current global situation also impacted upon the success of the movie Bloodshot, based on their comic books, with the publisher no longer in a position to capitalise on the film, even if it had been a success.
We have chosen not to name names at this moment, so that individuals can make that information known in their own time. But it is notable that Russell Braun, President – Consumer Products and Promotions at Valiant Entertainment from 2013 until the present day has added to his LinkedIn profile. He is now President of Killerspin, a New York company with a mission statement to "create beautiful experiences that connect amazing people through breaktime play in the spaces where they live, work and entertain." Which looks like high-end ping pong tables but seems to have a lot of money behind it, even now. Braun was a former EVP WorldWide Licensing, Promotions, Ad Sales at Marvel and also President and Co-Founder with Bill Jemas at the comics publisher 360EP.
