Curiosity Ink Media announced it is partnering with Dynamite Entertainment to create a new line of comics and books for kids adapted from a variety of Dynamite properties, including PAW Patrol.
The first property scheduled to hit shelves as part of the new partnership will be Curiosity Books' Baldwin’s Big Adventure, a picture book about a fearless switcher train with a big heart. Meanwhile, the second release will be a Book-Plus Novelty Formats book for preschoolers based on Nickelodeon's popular PAW Patrol animated series.
"Dynamite publishing is energized by our alliance with Curiosity Books," said Dynamite CEO/Publisher Nick Barrucci. "The best way to grow the industry is to have diverse offerings for younger readers, and then encouraging them to continue to read both our children's books, and then our comics, and all segments of the industry will grow." He added, "By offering Curiosity's immersive content alongside our proven portfolio of best-selling properties, Dynamite can embrace a wider fan base with new, premium titles."
It was also announced that Jon I. Rosenberg, who heads publishing for Curiosity, will lead the alliance by curating the Curiosity-licensed and original intellectual property being adapted into books. The new partnership between Dynamite and Curiosity will begin officially in Spring 2022.
"Locking arms with Dynamite underscores Curiosity's commitment to premium publishing and our mission to entertain kids through unique immersive storytelling content," Rosenberg said of his new role. "Dynamite shares our vision of promoting reading as one of the joys in life we hope to instill in kids at a young age and embrace as a life-long habit."
News of the partnership comes just weeks after the first official trailer for Paramount Pictures' PAW Patrol: The Movie debuted. In addition to featuring fan-favorites like Ryder and Chase, the trailer offered a sneak peek at the new PAW Patrol headquarters and some of the team's gadgets.
Following the release of both Baldwin’s Big Adventure and the PAW Patrol picture book, Dynamite and Curiosity have plans to publish additional book titles and graphic novels. Dynamite will also serve as the distributor of record for Curiosity's extensive catalog of licensed properties and original content for publishing.
Curiosity's current lineup of children's books includes Herbert Henry & Santa’s Secret Society by Amber Stewart, the Thomas & Friends series and My Little Pony Get Ready to Giggle! Dynamite is best known for its adult and young adult-targeted comic books and graphic novels, which include Nancy Drew, Rainbow Brite, Grumpy Cat, Fruit Ninja and Bob's Burgers.
Directed by Cal Brunker, PAW Patrol: The Movie features the voices of Jimmy Kimmel, Kim Kardashian, Tyler Perry, Dax Shepard, Randall Park, Yara Shahidi, Iain Armitage, Marsai Martin and Will Brisbin. The film is set for theatrical release on Aug. 20.
